COVID Quarantines forcibly separating families in China
The city of Shanghai has over 26 million residents. It is the largest and also the wealthiest city in China. It has also recently been hit by a COVID outbreak. It’s the Omicron variant.
In order to contain the outbreak, the CCP, (Chinese Communist Party) moved quickly. Initially, just the eastern districts of the city were locked down as of March 28. Since then, however, the entire city has been shut down. Drone footage shows a dystopian scene of a city devoid of movement.
Residents were not given any warning, as until just before the lockdowns, CCP officials denied one would happen. That left residents scrambling as they tried to make sure they had adequate supplies before officials cracked down on those not obeying quarantine. This was particularly hard for patients in critical care, who have been trying to get help by asking online.
As sad as that is, it does not give us the full extent of the trauma being forced on that population by its own government.
The Chinese government mandates that everyone must be quarantined if they test positive for COVID-19. It doesn’t matter how old, or young, they are. That means that children are being separated from parents.
