Trump Was Right About Russian Gas

Fuel shortages will hurt most Europeans but not the rich

According to Reuters, Germany will be enforcing energy-saving measures this winter thanks to a slashing of Russian gas supplies. Gazprom, a major Russian supplier, has cut flows to Germany via Nord Stream 1 to 20% of capacity. Berlin thinks this is in response to European sanctions against Russia.

Germany is Europe’s largest economy. As of 2021, it received 55 percent of its gas from Russia. German gas prices are expected to rise between 71% to 200%. Along with the rest of the European Union, plans are in place to reduce consumption by 15 percent.

Believe it or not, 4 years ago, in his September 2018 speech at the U.N. General Assembly, former President Donald Trump predicted this would happen.
