The Peace Officer grabbed the assassin, who slumped in apparent dejection. Tyan backed away. She doubted the local jail would hold Stony for long.
She smiled into the fan as she walked off. Half the job done, she thought. Now to find Midnight and help him. Though it might be better to plan, and meet him on the road, not in town where prying eyes might notice.
She’d buy supplies. She already had the portal she’d stolen and maps she’d gathered for him hidden in her trunk. She took them everywhere with her as she dared not leave anything incriminating at the Guild. As Midnight’s ex-partner, she was under suspicion and she knew they searched her home when she was traveling.
The only way to ensure a meeting on the open road was to give Midnight a head start. Maggie needing to be replaced had helped but it was not enough of a delay. However, at least it was verifiable — if the Guild checked, they would find…
