Now might be the time to reconsider poverty reduction options

The rich have gotten richer while the middle class has seen huge declines. The poor continue to suffer.

This is a bad situation that is getting worse. We need to find solutions before we descend into total chaos.

I’m not a big fan of entitlements. In fact, I recently wrote an article about how the world doesn’t owe us anything. And I meant it.

That doesn’t mean we can’t vote for and implement policies that would make peoples’ lives better.

During the Great Depression, we had the Works Progress Administration (WPA) which put 8.5 million Americans to work. These were not just make-work projects — there was real value in what the built. If you’ve ever visited a national park, you may have enjoyed the paths the created, the trees they planted, and other structures that add to our jointly owned land.

The WPA also built over 4,000 schools, 130 hospitals, 29,000 bridges, and 150 airfields. They…
