I wrote about this in a couple of Medium articles, Germans in Lubmin had been protesting to turn Nord Stream 2 back on - the sanctions were hurting Germany more than Russia. Now of course that option is off the table.

I also wrote in another article about Trump warning Germany about relying on Russia for fuel - the diplomats pretty much laughed at him. Not sure anyone is laughing now.
Germany had Europe's largest economy and was the fourth largest world economy in terms of nominal GDP. So you are right, when it makes a stupid decision, a lot of other countries are affected.
To be honest I think the decision to close nuclear plants was political, not economic - the Greens are a powerful force in German politics?
