The other day a friend of mine and I were talking about pet peeves.

She went off on people who don’t put their shopping carts into the corrals considerately provided by supermarkets.

“I don’t want to get hit by a shopping cart you couldn’t be bothered to walk a few seconds with,” she said. “I’ve had dents put in my car because of these lazy bums.”

I sympathized with her, though I’ve fortunately never been hit, that I can recall, by an errant shopping cart.

Then I shared my own pet peeve.

“People who don’t wash their hands after using the bathroom,” I said. “Disgusting. Did they grow up in a barn? Don’t they remember what they learned in kindergarten?”

“Especially after COVID,” she concurred.

“Yeah,” I said. “We’re supposed to wash our hands for 20 seconds, right? Stop the spread and all that?”

None of this is rocket science. It just shows good manners and consideration for other people.

Like, not talking loudly in a movie theater while a movie is on. Unless it’s the Rocky Horror Picture Show, when it’s sorta required.

Or not cutting in line, at least if you don’t live in China. And yes, I know, there are actually…
