Even Jesus listened to His mother

What was the first miracle recorded in the New Testament? Was it something profound and life changing? Did it move mountains, heal the sick or feed the masses?

No, the first miracle recorded was when Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding in John 2:1–11. There are several interesting things about this.

Jesus Respected His Mother

In the story, there is a marriage to which Jesus, his mother, and the disciples, among others, were invited. The custom for that culture was to have a celebration that lasted for several days. Indian wedding ceremonies of today work the same way.

After the marriage, the guests expected to be feasted for several days and if this did not happen, it was considered a disgrace.

So there is a very real reason Jesus’ mother came to him when the wine ran out. She was worried about the reputation of her friend.

When Mary asks her son to help, he replies, “Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come.”

When I originally read this, I thought Jesus was being disrespectful of His mother. However, that is not the case.
