We Used To Have A Waterbed
I loved it and wish I still had it
When I first got married and moved in with him, he had a waterbed.
I really loved it.
The tiny ripples made me feel like I was gently floating in a primordial place. It appealed to my sense of childlike wonder.
It was super comfortable. Prior to that, I might wake up a couple of times a night but all of a sudden — I didn’t. I slept like a baby the whole night.
Well, except that we WERE having our honeymoon phase of the marriage. And… let’s just say that having a waterbed enhanced those first months of our married life.
There were a few negatives, of course.
We had to pay extra renter’s insurance due to the risk of leaks.
However, he maintained it carefully and had a patch kit. In the decade we had that waterbed we only needed to patch it twice. Both times, the leaks were minor and easily fixed. It was actually surprisingly sturdy.
It was also very clean.
Because the waterbed itself was made of a non=porous material, bedbugs were not a factor. We washed and changed the sheets each week the way we would with any bed. If we accidentally spilled a glass of wine, it was easy to change the sheets and wipe down the bed.
