Weight Loss Journey

Two steps forward, one step back

I weighed myself this morning and was disappointed. I’ve gained a pound. Which I have to remind myself is just noise. Even if you do everything right, your weight can fluctuate. That’s life.

I was diagnosed with metastatic brain, lung, and liver cancer in April of 2021.

One factor that probably contributed — I was overweight. No, let’s not put a nice spin on it. I was technically obese.

I want to maximize my chances of beating the cancer, so one thing I’ve done — start a regimen of intermittent fasting in order to get my weight down.

Since I started, I’ve lost close to 60 pounds. That is less than 5 pounds a month, but… I haven’t been able to exercise much due to having had brain surgery, round of radiation, etc. Recently I had a port surgically added and this week I start chemo.

When I am not going through treatments, I lose weight. When I am getting treatments, which can last for several weeks, I tend to gain weight despite sticking to intermittent fasting and mostly clean eating.

Add to this the normal reality that weight loss is never a linear thing, particularly for women. Hormones and other factors can put you in a plateau.
