Well, I think in a broader sense - white people are also not all the same, and neither are Asians, etc. I think really my issue is that people lump everyone together based on skin color and so you get stuff like "we already hired a black person (or an Asian), we don't need another"... or you get someone saying "this black man robbed me" and so the police stop a totally innocent black man, don't listen to him present the evidence that proves he is innocent, etc. Because "they all look alike", or whatever.

Re. the headline about poor black kids - the people I was working with who wanted to help those poor kids were all white, except for me. And the kids were all black. To some degree, there was condescension baked into the situation but it was also a real eye-opener for me. So I shared my experience.

The reality is that there are more white people on welfare in terms of the numbers than blacks, but there are plenty of kids of all colors who suffer from living in high crime areas with bad schools, and that is a real problem.
