What Bloomberg, Bernie and Trump have in common

Yes, they really do have some similarities!

Recently I read that Michael Bloomberg has put his hat in the ring to run for President. It’s weird to see an already crowded Democratic field get more so. Plus I’m not sure there is any compelling reason for Bloomberg to run. What special interest or faction does he represent that isn’t already covered by one of the other candidates? Even the “I’m a billionaire” category is already covered by Tom Steyer.

Yet Bloomberg wants to run, and some people think he has a shot. Stranger things have happened. I mean, Trump won in 2016. No one predicted that back in 2015, when the money was on Jeb! to win the Republican nomination and Hillary to win the Presidency. So who knows?

Bloomberg has something in common with Bernie, who is certainly not a billionaire, and with Trump, who claims he is but whose tax returns might prove otherwise.

You see, Bloomberg wasn’t always a Democrat, and neither was Bernie. When Bloomberg ran for Mayor of New York City, he did it as a Republican. When Bernie ran for Mayor, he described himself as a socialist. In a 1985 New England Monthly profile, he stated that “I am onot now, nor have I ever been, a liberal Democrat.” In fact, Bernie is the longest serving independent in U.S. Congressional…
