what is strange is that jazz was invented in America! Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald... all Americans!

I think it's easier to assimilate in some places than others. Even if you just move to another part of America, it can be hard, how much harder in a different country! I hope that over time it will be easier for you. At least you are able to enjoy some of the most delicious cheeses - one thing I loved when I visited France. Plus the beautiful gardens, the architecture and art... France is a lovely place.
