when I graduated college I was offered a job in the South and one in San Jose. The one in San Jose offered more money but I'd have to have a roommate to barely get by even on that salary. But if I took the job in the South, I would be able to afford my own place. Guess where I went?
I was advising a friend of mine recently to move because he can't afford where he is living. He refuses to do so. I pointed out that this will result in him being homeless. At some point you have to own your choices.
And, believe it or not, many homeless have college degrees. I know because I volunteered at a soup kitchen in the Bay Area and many of the homeless I talked to did, indeed, have an education. Some had advanced degrees.
I have a lot of compassion for those who are homeless, but the country is already deeply in debt. the calls for increased spending is like the goose that laid the golden egg being killed. if we kill the economy because we keep wanting to spend money we don't have, then at some point it will all go belly up, there will be nothing left, and we'll be Mexico City or Mumbai
