Why Art Is So Rewarding

If only it paid better!

Girl on a swing — one of the first watercolors I sold

I recently heard from someone who bought one of my paintings years ago — back before I had my mastectomy and then the recent battle with brain cancer.

This was back when I was still married to my ex, over a decade ago.

I started off painting just as a hobby. In fact, my ex bought me an art class as a gift. Just one session painting in the park but I really loved it, and so then I started to paint for pleasure. Eventually I started to sell my work.

I even had studio space for a while — in a local gallery that catered to tourists and day-trippers.

I never made a lot of money but I usually paid for groceries.

I had a Facebook page which showed pictures of all of my art, with links for people to visit if they were interested in buying stuff online. A few pieces did sell that way.

At one point, I also put some paintings up in a restaurant in a high-end neighborhood. Someone paid what, for me, was a lot of money at the time, to buy the painting shown at the top of this page.

The person had a daughter, and bought the painting for her.

Recently, many years later, she reached out to me on my FB site, to tell me how much she continues to enjoy the painting.
