why would anyone bother buying a house to rent, if they are not protected? Why spend their hard earned money to keep the repairs up, pay taxes, etc.? I think the end result of this policy of giving free housing - no one will want to rent property. Or, they'll ask for a HUGE deposit. In some locations, landlords won't rent without 6 months rent up front. how does THAT help the working poor?

Right now these people have a place to live, but what happens when the landlords go broke and can't pay their taxes anymore? What happens when the banks foreclose? Or when no one is willing to pay the cost of upkeep?

What happens when only the government is willing to rent to people? We all see how well that works - the projects in places like NYC show us how desirable those places are....

the best way to help the working class is to make housing affordable. which does NOT happen in blue cities like San Francisco... whereas in red states, it's more affordable to buy or rent property.
