Yes, I agree… we do get so much back from them.
Collies are amazing. Another thing that really impressed me about my dog — she was very sensitive and could not stand conflict. One time my ex-husband and I were starting to argue about something, and next thing I knew, there was a muzzle pushing against my hand. She distracted us to get us to stop! They are peace makers.
It breaks my heart that people still torment animals. Including hares. Yes, they experience fear. And I imagine sometimes they do themselves an injury trying to escape…
I wish I’d been able to rescue Annie when she was younger, so I could have had more years with her and spared her some pain. But, I am grateful for the years I did have. My next dog is going to be a 6 month old puppy, white German Shepherd.
I needed to get a different breed, because Annie was so special to me, it felt wrong to get another collie right away. I will totally rescue another older dog again in the future though. I agree with you — it should be the connection and bond you have, and that can happen with any age dog. Most of my pets have been rescues — I prefer to rescue if I can and save a life.
